Southern Corn Rust

— Written By

Southern Rust of Corn has been confirmed in Tyrrell, Hyde, and Beaufort counties. Corn that is in the dent stage is mature enough that the rust should not affect the yield. If you have late planted corn that is just now pollinating or is in the milk stage, you should apply a fungicide as soon as the weather allows. If you have already applied a fungicide, you have two weeks of protection. At the end of the two weeks, if your corn is still not in the dent stage you may want to consider another fungicide application. Call Frank Winslow at the Tyrrell County office (252-796-1581) if you have any questions.
