On the evening of February 26, 2013 twenty-seven Washington County 4-H’ers participated in the annual Washington – Chowan STEM Fair. The 4-H Science Technology Engineering and Math Program or STEM encourages youth to participate in science and math in addition to fueling interests in these fields. The 4-H STEM Fair encourages the use of scientific method, research, public speaking, and creativity. Washington County 4-H’ers swept the competition receiving the following awards (Award winners pictured): 1st Place Overall, Zaire Price and Olivia Hinton for their project on Singing Wine Glasses; 2nd Place Overall, Hailie Waters for her project on the Area of a Parachute; 3rd Place Overall, Isabelle Spear and Jessi Cayton for their project on Plant Growth; 1st Place 5th Grade, Emily Chandler; 2nd Place 5th Grade, Sidney Joyner; 3rd Place 5th Grade, Jahi Walker; 1st Place 4th Grade, Brooke Whitehurst and Shamaya Skinner; 2nd Place 4th Grade, Darby Waters and Sara Hill; 3rd Place 4th Grade, Bryson Spear. Other Washington County participants in the 4-H STEM Fair included: Callee Ambrose and Angel Brown, Queenashia Hyman and Miranda Joyner, Jalaiyah Tann and Kimirah Bell, Nora Davis and Jaheim Norman, and Kelsey Bleadingheiser.
